Wikipedia's profile of Chretien
It's been a long road for the "little guy from Shawinigan." Just two years into politics, he cut his teeth during the height of the Cold War as Prime Minister Lester Pearson's parliamentary secretary. Later, he became one of Pierre Trudeau's most trusted MPs and over the course of 16 years served as minister of eight different portfolios.

And in 1993 the Liberal party's jack-of-all-trades grabbed the reins himself. In the decade following, he faced a Quebec referendum, an over-budget gun registry, a helicopter dispute and, most finally, a Liberal party scramble to appoint his successor. And he survived it all, with three terms as prime minister as proof. (CBC)

My job as editorial cartoonist at The Hamilton Spectator began just after Jean Chretien was reelected as head of government for the second time in 1997.  Below is a gallery of cartoons of the 26th Prime Minister of Canada drawn from 1997 to the present day.
