Canadian billionaire Jim Balsillie launched a ticket drive and ad campaign in southern Ontario today, in an effort to prove Hamilton has what it takes to become the future home of the NHL's Nashville Predators.
Balsillie, the co-CEO of BlackBerry maker Research In Motion, has in place a tentative purchase agreement for the Predators and is reportedly eager to bring the team to Hamilton.
The Hamilton Spectator is carrying ads on Thursday confirming that the Predators could be relocating to the city. At Ticketmaster, fans can reserve seats for the 'Hamilton Predators' even though no deal has yet been reached. A banner on the website reads:
"The Nashville Predators may relocate to Hamilton, Ontario! Jim Balsillie and Predators Sports and Entertainment LP are pleased to announce that Ontario hockey fans can now reserve future season tickets with priority seating. Corporate Suites are also available. Don't Miss Out!" the website reads.
"Deposits are now being accepted and are fully refundable, first come first serve on the priority wait list." Source...
