A German steel executive will lead Dofasco into a leaner and meaner future.
Arcelor Mittal named Juergen Schachler as CEO of the Hamilton steelmaker yesterday.
His appointment is effective next Tuesday.
Little else is known about Dofasco's new chief executive.
He was not available for comment after the announcement and U.S. and European company officials didn't return calls seeking more information about the executive's plans for Dofasco.
The company says he spent his past two years as CEO of Arcelor Mittal Eisenhuettenstadt, a steel division which employs about 3,000 people southeast of Berlin near the German-Polish border.
Prior to that, Schachler served as chief executive of Thailand's Thainox Steel and New Jersey's Techalloy.
What is known is that Schachler will lead a leaner, more efficient Dofasco.
