Sheila's Car Wreck
Prime Minister Paul Martin is denying Sheila Copps' accusations that he wanted to dismantle the Canada Health Act.

During a news conference Monday with Mexican president Vincente Fox, Martin said it's "simply not true" that he once wanted to change the rules for the country's medicare system.

In Copps' new book, Worth Fighting For, the former deputy prime minister writes that when Martin was finance minister, he planned to end the Canada Health Act in the 1995 federal budget.

Copps said when she heard of Martin's proposal, she insisted on last-minute changes to the budget to prevent medicare from being replaced. Source.
